In her first term, Jackie Sartoris implemented common sense, practical reforms to the way we approach criminal justice, and achieved real results.

  • Created a Sex Crimes Prosecution Team to prioritize these frequently underprosecuted cases, take them to trial, and give victims the justice they deserve.

  • Won a $2.5 million federal grant to test the backlog of every eligible rape kit, and investigate and prosecute where possible.

  • Created a new alcohol and drug addiction diversion program to help defendants find their way to recovery.

  • Developed and expanded a restorative justice program to help defendants accept accountability, restore constructive connections to community, and reduce future criminal conduct.

  • Identified and began fixing systemic gaps in the Mental Health docket, and instituted changes to help keep both the public, and individuals with acute mental health needs, safer.
